Waste water discharging and treatment in the area of the Ljubljansko polje aquifer Project type: New construction

Public utility and water infrastructure Waste water discharging and treatment in the area of the Ljubljansko polje aquifer Project type: New construction

DRI, jointly with partners Project d.d. Nova Gorica and LUZ d.d., shall supervise the construction of the 1st and 2nd parts of the project “Waste water discharging and treatment in the area of the Ljubljansko polje aquifer”, which include the upgrading of the system for discharging municipal waste water in the municipalities of Medvode and Vodice, the construction of the connecting channel C0 in the Municipality of Ljubljana and the construction of the 3rd phase of the Central Treatment Plant of Ljubljana.

Waste water channels of 22 km and 2 waste water pumping stations will be newly built in the first part of the project in the Municipality of Medvode as well as 9.1 km of waste water channels in the Municipality of Vodice. A connecting channel C0 in a total length of 12.1 km and a retaining basin will be built in the Municipality of Ljubljana. Around 3,600 residents of the Municipality Medvode and 1,100 residents of the Municipality of Vodice will be newly connected to the public sewage system, and the construction of the connecting channel C0 will significantly reduce the burden on the existing central sewage system in Ljubljana.

The second part of the project is the construction of 3rd phase of the Central Treatment Plant of Ljubljana (CČNL), which includes an increase in its capacity to 555,000 PE and an upgrade of the existing plant with a tertiary level of cleaning, which will also remove nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from the waste water. It is also planned to increase the capacity of the sludge line and to modernize the existing sludge line with modern technological processes for the treatment of sludge. To allow lower operating costs, state-of-the-art equipment and advanced technological processes will be built in. The increased quantity of biogas produced will replace the use of natural gas and allow a higher degree of energy self-sufficiency.

The increased quantity of the produced biogas will reduce the use of natural gas and enable higher self-sufficiency.
